I've built a chat-message server for real-time chat. This is similar to MSN Chat, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger....so forth, but is specifically for the Paralegal Board Members. With this, once you launch the program and log on to the chat server, you will be able to do real-time chat with other members, including the ability to transfer files back and forth between users and receive off-line messages.
You will be essentially BETA testing this, and if successful I will put it into production for next semester.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Download the chat program, Spark from this location:
Spark Chat Program2. Install the program with the default settings. That is, just accept whatever the installation automatically specifies.
3. When it is done installing you will see a screen that has a "Finish" button on it and a check-mark that says Run Spark. Click Finish with Run Spark.
4. You will see a login window with the fields: Username, Password, Server.
5. I have it set up so you can all create your own accounts. I only ask that you edit your preferences to show your real first and last name and email address in your personal profile settings. Don't worry. Nobody outside of this group will know about this group so your information will stay on my server.
6. At the bottom of the login window you will see Accounts, Advanced, Login.
7. Click Accounts. You will then type in your preferred username you wish to use, your password, and a server name. The server name has to be: rightonthemark.kicks-ass.net
8. Click "Create Account".
9. You will see a pop-up saying "New Account Has Been Created" if successful.
10. The program login screen will now appear with your login name and the server name.
11. Click the word "Login" in the lower right corner of the window.
12. The program will launch and display your name in the window showing "Online" and anybody else who may be logged on.
13. Next, go to the menu on the window that says Spark, and go to "Edit My Profile".
14. Enter your name and email address, and whatever other information you want to display or be viewable by other members.
15. You can change settings by trying different options in the menus. If you click on the upside-down black triangle next to the green Online icon, you can set your status to away, do not disturb...etc.
16. You can also create a start a conference with multiple users at once or send a broadcast message. These options are under the menu "Actions".

Before you log in, click on the Advanced option at the bottom center of the login screen and select "Use Old SSL Port Method", and make sure Automatically Discover Host and Port is checked in the Advanced option as well.
That is about it. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm deploying this program server-wide next semester and could some beta-testers.
